Let the Ibrox coup begin

Former Rangers manager and chairman, Walter Smith:

It is clear that Boardroom change is required and I would urge Rangers fans to get fully behind the resolutions which last week were presented to the Board and shareholders

Outgoing Rangers non-executive chairman Walter Smith backs a boardroom coup at Ibrox led by Frank Blin and former Rangers board member Paul Murray.

This is despite the fact that Murray would probably fail the Scottish Football Association’s ‘fit and proper person’ test.

Strange, the Daily Record’s Hugh Keevins was convinced only last month that Walter would be around for a long time to come

Rangers chairman Walter Smith threatens to resign

Monday, August 5th, 2013

BBC Scotland reports on Walter Smith’s disquiet at the current debacle going on down Govan way:

The former manager has already indicated to some within the club that he will definitely walk away if boss Ally McCoist is forced out and he may even go as early as this week.

This is a classic example of the Rangers PR machine in full-swing as BBC Scotland’s Chris McLaughlin gleefully assists in the stage-management of an impending Ibrox coup; no critical analysis of the motives behind Smith’s threats and a complete absence of attributable quotes from the principle subject of the story.

Wider motives are at play here – a more principled man would have walked away without the need to play things out in the media.

Watch this space.
