Who is the Hostile Monkey?

The Monkey is watching, listening – and is having its say on the hypocrisy and corruption prevalent in Scottish football and the Scottish sport media.

This includes biased reporting, misleading articles, unsubstantiated commentary or analysis and the failure of the media to investigate issues that are concerning fans and supporters.

Each article on the Hostile Monkey website is categorised as follows (in some cases, more than one category may apply):

Hear No Evil: this is when the media choses to ignore a story, either through fear, commercial concern or bias in favour of the subject of the story – or, when an organisation simply refuses to acknowledge that something has previously been reported and claims a story as an exclusive.

See No Evil: this is an example of when the media refuses to cover a story due to the negative connotations surrounding it, or due to downright ignorance or stupidity.

Speak No Evil: this is deliberate misquoting, distortion of facts or the misrepresentation of material which demonstrates a lack of integrity or a failure to apply journalistic diligence or scrutiny.

Claim Chowder: this is when the Monkey observes a media outlet, blog or other such organisation proliferating or broadcasting unsupportable or outrageous claims which are later highlighted as having been demonstrably unsound at the time of publishing or broadcasting.

Fact Howler: this is when the Monkey observes a media outlet, blog or other such organisation proliferating or broadcasting a blatant falsehood or attempting to pass off demonstrably incorrect information as fact or truth.
